Where Did That Come From Part II......Manu vs Norwich

-Rahul
................Speechless..........That's what this blogger was...After Macheda's winner against Aston Villa a few years back, this blogger never thought his heart would ever come so close on the verge of stopping...But the Old guard rising, did worse than that, just ask this blogger's poor mother who had the misfortune of sitting next to him when Giggsy's late winner crept in.

Winning late has always been in United's DNA, but this season they showed one more characteristic....underperformaning  on special occasion-- Roo's birthday and a 6-1 defeat to City, Fergies 25 years and a scrappy win against Sunderland courtesy of a Wes Brown own goal. Today was Ryan Giggs 900th appearance for Manchester United, but United ignored their newly found habit and stuck to the older one.

Scholes opened the scoring at the 7 minute, after playing a ball to the wing, and then running into the D to receive the return and head it comfortably from close range with Ruddy at the other post. The Canaries decided to fly a little after that and slowly got into the game and would have felt heartbroken heading into half time still down after David De Gea made a string of spectacular saves to deny Pilkington and Holt. The Spaniard was indisputably the man of the match.

In the final 20 minuted  United almost looked to go 2-0 ahead as a ball into the final third found Giggs whose shot hit the crossbar while creeping in. The game was always going to be a tactical battle and after Paul Lambert adapted the diamond formation seen so many times this season, with the introduction of Wes Hoolahan for Jackson, Sir Alex decided that he had to have some more balls supplied to the attacking third by bringing in Young for Hernandez (The latter wasn't having his best game, his first touch and power often deserting him). Lambert countered pace with pace, bringing in Bennett for Johnson. A few minutes later (83 minute)the ball was back in United's third and Grant Holt had City fans all over the world celebrating, after his shot after a turn crept past De Gea into the top corner. He has now scored against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. As the commentator reminded us, two years earlier at this time Norwich were in League One winning against Oldham 1-0 with Holt in the team sheet. What a story! Every last person in the stadium assumed that United will go home 4 points behind City.

United, if in any way were devastated, didn't show it. They suddenly played with the swagger of Champions, that had people thinking, if they had played this way through the match, they would have trampled Norwich. The Canaries hardly ever got the ball. Approaching extra time, Norwich hd to hang on for only 3 minutes more indicated by the 4th official's board. 91st minute bought an Ashley Young cross into the D near the far post. And guess who was there......Ryan Giggs on his 900th appearance for the club he has served for 21 years, slotted it in as Carrow Road nearly erupted. Even he couldn't have written the script any better......
